About Eones
Stories that span from thousands to billions of years, told so they can be understood.
Eones is a deep history documentary project that explores the origin of the universe, the evolution of our planet, the history of humankind and the great civilizations.
Our work combines scientific and historical research, audiovisual storytelling and visual resources to make sense of stories that span from thousands to billions of years.
How each documentary is made
Each documentary starts from a script written from scientific and historical sources: papers published in journals such as Nature, Science or PNAS, and standard reference works. Every date, figure or site mentioned has a source behind it, and disputed dates are presented as such. Each documentary's list of sources is on its page.
So that the timescales can be imagined, each story is told on something familiar: the universe as a year, the Earth as a day, Egypt as a river three thousand kilometres long.
The images
The documentaries use two kinds of images. Real photographs — from telescopes, museums, archaeological sites and archives — are used whenever they exist, with their licence and credit. Recreations show what nobody could ever photograph: the newborn Earth, a dinosaur or life in the Ice Age. They illustrate what the science says; they are not photographs.
Artificial intelligence
Eones uses artificial intelligence in its production: to generate the recreations, for the synthetic-voice narration and for translation and subtitles. The research, the choice of sources and the review of every script and image happen before publication, and the facts are checked against their sources.
Languages
Each documentary is released once on YouTube with three audio tracks: Spanish (Spain), English and Latin American Spanish. The player picks yours from your account's language, and you can change it in its settings.
